Neck & Low Back Pain

Since its inception in 1895, chiropractic has provided treatment for patients with back pain, neck pain and headache. Throughout American chiropractic history, some chiropractors have claimed a relationship among the sp ine, nervous system and brain as essential to one’s health and have held that structural imbalances within the spine can affect functioning with the spinal cord, nerves, muscles, bones and joints of the body.

Sports Injuries

From back pain to knee problems, sports injuries can cause serious damage to the musculoskeletal system – leaving former athletes struggling with pain. Without proper treatment, a sports injury can permanently keep you on the sidelines. Our chiropractors follow a non-invasive approach to injury rehabilitation that supports pain management without the need for surgery or medication. By incorporating holistic healing methods including physiotherapy and massage therapy.

Massage Therapy

Chiropractors are primary healthcare providers and can help treat a number of conditions. Their main goal is to release subluxations in the spine to make sure the body and the nervous system are operating at their best possible level. Massage therapists on the other hand are experienced in treating muscular conditions only and in helping relieve muscle pain, stiffness and tension through hands-on treatments. There are a number of other differences between chiropractors and massage therapists as well.

Chiropractic Adjustments

A chiropractic adjustment, also known as chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation, is a common therapeutic treatment for lower back pain. A chiropractic adjustment refers to a chiropractor applying manipulation to the vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. The objective of this chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, with the goals of increasing range of motion, reducing nerve irritability and improving function.

Sciatica

If you have sciatica pain, a chiropractor can help. Sciatica affects the sciatic nerve, a large nerve extending from the lower back down the back of each leg. What are the symptoms? Pain in the leg or rear that is worse when sitting,
burning or tingling running down the leg, weakness, numbness, or difficulty moving the leg or foot, constant pain on one side of the rear and or shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up.

Shoulder Rotator / Cuff Injuries

What Rotator Cuff Injuries are Common? Your rotator cuff muscles and tendons are vulnerable to rotator cuff tears, rotator cuff tendonitis and rotator cuff impingement and related rotator cuff injuries. Rotator cuff injuries vary from mild tendon inflammation ( rotator cuff tendonitis), shoulder bursitis (inflammed bursa), calcific tendonitis (bone forming within the rotator cuff tendon) through to partial and full thickness rotator cuff tears, which may require rotator cuff surgery.

Herniated Discs

What is a herniated disc? What causes a herniated disc? As described above, each disc of the spine is designed much like a jelly donut. As the disc degenerates from age or injury, the softer central portion can rupture (herniate) through the surrounding outer ring (annulus fibrosus). This abnormal rupture of the central portion of the disc is referred to as a disc herniation. This is commonly referred to as a “slipped disc.”

Headaches

Headache is a very common condition in patients with chiropractic problems. A cause of headaches can be from spinal bones in the neck that aren’t supporting your head properly. This can affect nerves, muscles and even the blood supply to your head. Research has shown that the most common types of headaches respond well to chiropractic care. The vast majority of even the most severe headaches are relieved when spinal subluxations (spinal joints that are out of alignment, don’t move well and also irritate the nerves) and jaw problems are corrected.

Electrical Stimulation Therapies

Some physiological therapeutic measures that are often utilized in chiropractic care include: Heat and cold. Chiropractors may alternate between heat and ice therapy to help patients treat back pain. Ice packs may be used to numb the back for a 10 to 15 minute period and then switched with a heating pad, heat wrap or hot water bottle to restore blood flow to the area and promote faster healing. Exercise. Chiropractors may provide patients with instructions for an exercise program focusing on stretching and strengthening the back.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Ultrasound therapy is used to minimize muscle pain and movement dysfunction. Therapeutic ultrasound uses sound waves to deliver deep heat to the treated tissues. The treatments may help reduce stiffness, swelling, and pain, increase circulation, and promote pain-free movement. Ultrasound therapy may be used alone or in conjunction with stretching, therapeutic massage, heat, or gentle chiropractic manipulation. Ultrasound therapy is a painless procedure, and many people find it relaxing.
